With prayer and God’s help, all of my fears seemed to subside. Helping to carry just a little portion of the burdens that these people have to lug around each and every day, truly gave me a new perspective on life. It helped me to understand the sacrifice that Jesus has made for all of His children. I can’t imagine what he went through by carrying all of our burdens. I’m grateful to have experienced selfless service. We had laundry up to our ears until 4:15 am, but I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. I met a lady there who had an infant who was suffering from pneumonia and she had to ask us for medicine to give him. Then it was back out on the streets the next day. I wanted so badly to reach out to that little one, but I felt so helpless. It made me realize what a bubble we all live in. She was so excited! I did no part of the set up myself. After the teachers' meeting Melody's teacher awarded her a certificate noting she was the 2nd place contest winner of a persuasive writing contest "Dazzling Diamonds for Mom" sponsored by a local jeweler. The letter with the certificate noted that over 9000 writings were submitted last month from local elementary/intermediate school students making the appeal why their mom should be the winner of a gemstone. Second place winners were awarded a $70.00 gem stone. Of course, as all kids would, Melody wrote that her mom was kind, etc. It was a great opportunity to tell her that she got to be part of an act of kindness this morning participating in the NorthStar Teacher Appreciation! But when you witness so many kids giving of themselves, it is beyond words. To see the football team out there dancing with the special needs kids just really got me all choked up. You wonder who gets the most out of it. I have been in the construction industry since I was 17, a General Contractor in remodeling for the past 18 years and I am a very skilled carpenter. Acworth and the surrounding area is truly a " better" place to live and work because of the many acts of service and outreach performed by your church membership. I was "reflecting" on the many times (over the years!), that NorthStar Church has influenced me and my attitude through the "small" things that you do to demonstrate Christ's love. It really is the small stuff that sticks with folks the most. As I was thinking back to the many cinnamin rolls, lunches, dinners, fall festivals, Labor Day activities, parades, special needs field, and school visits, I realized that the spirit of love and outreach has been "taught" to the general community. Your Church's demonstration of "how" to show God's love in everyday life is a gift. This gift will continue to make Acworth, and the people who have been so richlly blessed, better examples of how God would want us to live. Thank you NorthStar Church. Most Sincerely, Sylvia S. It is impossible to count how many different lives you have touched and made better from your countless programs. We are endlessly appreciative for all you do to help us in our mission to strengthen the families of Cobb County. With much thanks, Cobb County Social Workers 2007-2008 Submiteed March 14, 2008 __________________________________________________________________________ ”It takes a village to raise a child.” African Proverb On behalf of the students and staff of Kennesaw Mountain High we want to thank the North Star congregation for being positive role models and ethical leaders during our Character Education Special Needs Dance--better known as “The Dance!” The men demonstrated patience and leadership assisting our student leaders to build the decorations for the dance. The women pitched in and assisted the students with the design and details. Tina and her group added to our lessons in servant leadership by working the North Star sponsored bus driver luncheon during “The Dance!.” This event is now a community project. Thanks to North Star’s lead, “The Dance” had several churches involved as well as, several business leaders, local politicians, and business organizations led by North Cobb Rotary. The North Star congregation has led the way in developing a community that believes in making a difference and being role models for servant leadership. The bottom line --- the North Star congregation “walks the talk”. Thank you for all you do for our schools to model servant leadership. Billy Richardson Asst. Your involvement made a huge difference and helped to make the day a big success. We could not have pulled it off without you! Everyone enjoyed the conference and got so much out of it and that is all because of your help! It was really a great day and conference for everyone. It all went so smoothly only because we had so many wonderful people jumping in and helping. We can't thank you enough for helping to make this conference happen and such a wonderful success! Everything was so nice and convenient for us. That was an incredibly generous gesture on the part of your church. Thank you for your support of Cobb County counselors and schools. I stood outside the gym and watched as hundreds of kids got off of many buses to enter the event. It was truly incredible to see their faces as they took the LONG walk from the bus port to the gym. You could see their excitement. You are a huge part of this community and I appreciate your work. Thanks, Jamie Maddox Submitted February 28, 2008 _________________________________________________________________________ Yesterday was AWESOME!!!!! I’ll never forget it! It seems you only see and hear of the bad things our teenagers are into these days, all the school shootings, gangs, sex, drugs and alcohol. It can be very discouraging. Anything I can do to help in any projects, just let me know. We are really swamped right now (I’m even working with a start up church in the purchase of some land and a building, how about that!). If I’m given enough advance notice I can schedule around just about anything. Sometimes I can be available even on short notice. Just as the body has many members, so are we all in Christ………. Kim Sanders Target Teacher Frey Elementary Submitted February 20, 2008 _________________________________________________________________________ NorthStar, Thank you again for all that you and your church does to serve our community. Most recently thank you for the "coat donation" you made to the school this week. Thanks to you, all of our children went home warm today. The huge bags of brand new coats just seemed to go on forever. Thank you also for financially helping our families who have found themselves down on their luck. You've allowed them to keep roofs over their heads and food on their tables literally. You guys are our "first responders" time after time and we so appreciate all of the help you continue to give us. I thank God every day for you and pray that you guys will continue the community service you have so graciously provided to us for so many years.
